WINNING BUSINESS WOMEN REVEALED

WOMEN BUSINESS LEADERS from across Scotland have been recognised at last night’s Women’s Enterprise Scotland Awards 2019.

Run in association with Scotland’s leading business publication, Scottish Business Insider, the glittering Awards ceremony took place at Glasgow’s Grand Central Hotel, with established and emerging business leaders being celebrated in ten categories.

In notable highlights, Coatbridge based Lynn Laughland of HRM Homecare took the coveted Leader 2019 Award whilst Matugga Distillers was named Start-up of the Year. Sara Roberts of Healthy Nibbles took the award for Emerging Business Leader 2019 and Amanda Pickford of Kelso based Thermafy was named Innovator of the Year.

Keynote speaker Wendy Hallett MBE, one of the UK’s leading retailers, presented Heather Matthews, Managing Director of Little’s Chauffeurs with the award for Business of the Year.

Carolyn Currie, CEO of Women’s Enterprise Scotland, commented, “Women-owned businesses represent 20% of Scotland’s business base and contribute a whopping £8.8bn into the economy every year. That’s more than many of the stated growth sectors, including Food and Drink and Sustainable Tourism. Yet the persistent gender gap in enterprise participation remains. Our Awards showcase the array of talent represented by Scotland’s women-owned business community and create the role models who will inspire us all and the next generation of women and girls coming through."

She continued; "At WES we have an ambition for women-owned businesses. Our goal is to create a diverse, innovative and prosperous business ecosystem, fully unlocking women’s economic potential and consigning the gender gap in enterprise to history.”

The event was supported by attended by over 250 guests from across Scotland and supported by Business Gateway, CYBG, DSL Finance and Boe Gin. The charity partner was Women's Fund for Scotland.
